Bill Rafuse

My safety experience has been gained by working in a Safety Officer capacity while employed at TrentonWorks, working as a Safety Coordinator with Gardner Electric at the Canaport LNG site in St. John, NB, as Safety Coordinator with Marid Industries at the Nova Scotia Power Offices site in Halifax, NS and more recently with Safety Check of Sydney, NS, KMS Marine in Dartmouth, NS and Millen Farms Ltd. Great Village, NS.

I have my Grade 12 education and graduated with honours from the NSCC Occupational Health and Safety Program along with attending many other training programs and seminars. I have a valid Class 5 Nova Scotia driver’s license, enjoy travelling and am willing to relocate.

I have extensive experience conducting workplace safety inspections, along with equipment and vehicle inspections. I have also conducted and participated in accident / illness investigations, environmental spill investigations, dealt with work refusals, along with establishing training requirements and training employees in lift truck operation, accident investigation, fall protection, confined space awareness, WHMIS/GHS and workplace inspections.

My work on the farm has not only given me wider experience in OH&S, but has gotten me involved in food safety. I have developed a site specific HACCP program and led the farm to be certified in the Canada GAP food safety program for the first time and again annually while I was there.

I also have experience organizing, chairing safety committees, working with people returning to work, modified duty programs and workplace accommodations.

I have gained an excellent working knowledge of safety acts, regulations and other relevant standards and guidelines. I also have experience writing, reviewing and implementing policies, safe work procedures and programs including respiratory protection, welding and confined space. I also have experience writing reports, organizing safety files, maintaining/updating MSDS and conducting job hazard analysis and rescue plans. Most recently I have compled the Construction Safety Officer program through the Nova Scotia Construction Safety Association.

My computer skills include proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Access. I have a wide network of health and safety contacts and like to keep myself informed on what is going on in the health and safety community and believe learning is a lifelong experience. I enjoy working in the field of Occupational Health and Safety with its fast paced environment and ever changing priorities.
